While I’m waiting patiently for my alpha readers to finish with the second draft of Imogen’s story, By the Eye, By the Hand (BTEBTH), I’m supposed to be working on the first draft of the second book in the Triptych series, Setting the Hook, which is Annika’s story. Instead, I keep staring at the 30 or so chapter outlines in Scrivener without adding any details. I can see it all mapped out in my head, but getting it into actual outline form is proving to be a problem. Again. Once I get started on the writing part of the process, I’m anticipating about two months of fairly solid work — if I can continue the 10,000 words per week streak, I managed with BTEBTH. Now that I know I can do it, my focus will be on overcoming my tendency to procrastinate. But I’ll be in Hawai‘i for a couple of weeks in November on a writing-retreat-slash-research-trip, and then on the Mid North Coast for three weeks in December-January, enjoying the sun and beach with the family, so I need to factor in those weeks because I know I won’t get much (or maybe not any) writing done. I’m hoping to have the third draft of BTEBTH finished before I leave for Hawai‘i since the intention of that trip is fact-checking to ensure accuracy and cultural sensitivity, and I might be overly optimistic when I say I hope to make the necessary revisions and additions on the flight home (it’s 9½ hours) to produce the fourth draft. But I digress. Once the first draft of Setting the Hook is finished, I then need to start on Disrupted, Yolanda’s story, which is the first book in the series. I have about two months of solid work left on that one, as well. I’m writing them in reverse order, so I’m not tempted to release the first before the second and third are also fully completed. Why? If you haven’t been following along via my IG account, let me explain… The three stories run concurrently (rather than consecutively) and are intertwined, so the risk of inconsistencies is too high to release any of them before they are all 100% ready.
